Dharmik is an Australian volunteer based charity helping the children and people of Nepal. In 2007 Mark McIntyre, Mary-Louise Parkinson and their two children, Sarah and Harry, lived and worked in Nepal. They could not ignore the extreme poverty experienced by the people of Nepal, one of the poorest nations on Earth. Sending 18 poverty striken children to school was the first of many projects this local Milton family embarked upon. They now support three orphanages directly with education, food, medical supplies and milk for babies. Larger projects are underway such as providing physiotheraphy for handicapped children, water filters and solar water pumps for outer villages and developing a voluntourism (income producing) project for Nepal's largest orphanage which houses over 600 children. You can help by purchasing products from our Dharmik Trading Store in Milton (next to the Post Office) or by shopping here. Mary-Louise has a direct relationship with local Nepalese who handmake products for Dharmik Trading. She personally checks the products and ensures fair conditions are adhered to. Local Milton artists also contribute to Dharmik Trading with beautiful handmade gifts. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact Mary-Louise, Lisa Lander or Stacey Harrison at the store on 02 4455 4772. You can buy a Dharmik Trading Gift Certificate, sponsor a child or contribute towards a Dharmik project directly by visiting www.dharmik.org. Thanks so much for shopping with us. |
